Green Key Community Oyster Reef Construction Project
May 2010
Green Key, a small island located just south of the mouth of the Alafia River in Hillsborough Bay, has experienced erosion over time caused by changes in currents and sand distribution. Tampa Bay Watch and Audubon of Florida, supported by dozens of volunteers, are working to save this important bird sanctuary by creating a series of oyster bars around the shore of the island. Follow members of PBS&J’s environmental sciences group in Tampa as they lend their support to the project.
